Not the song from Haddaway
I've been thinking a lot about what drives a soul, me specifically, with all that I've been dealt with in life and what is it that drives me every morning. What is Love?
How do you see it acknowledge it, practice it. For me it's been the forest, the trees and the love for the land, beauty of the natural ocean. I see it, acknowledge it, want to understand it, appreciate it and protect it. For nothing in return.
The same practice I carried out with my kids when I was their dad, I wanted to love them for nothing in return, see them as they are, elevate them, encourage them on what they wanted to do, see what they wanted to do and what they didn't want to do. A level of understanding that is hard for a man to do, to not be encouraged by self thoughts or dreams of what I want, or what others want in society. Encouraging them to be free, to do what they want, to dance like no one is watching, listen to the music that they want and not what the other kids in school want. Read the books that others don't, be the lonely individual in the library and not care, do what your own heart desires and not what others, movies, media encourages you do to do.
A large part then about Love is seeing, listening, learning, appreciating the object or person that you love. For me the last couple of years it's been about understanding why the planet is hurting with the rising global electrical storm, wildfires, volcanos across the world and why is it hurting, what is doing it, why would perhaps in the future people might not be able to enjoy our beautiful planet, because there is no wildlife, no birds, no trees, no fresh oxygen, no magnetosphere because we ate it all and not nuturing it and protecting it. I've carried out a number of research projects to create a multitude of proposals but the world of UK and Canada does not want to do it today, their priorities seem to be seeking something else. Which really won't be Love.
Then there is the concept of loving thy self. Giving up all in life to persue what is important to you and only you, putting aside all other influences of money, fame, celebrityhood, medals or other forms of celebration, because you do what is most important to you asking for nothing in return. I will be a very happy man being able to do what I want to and have nothing but a lovely glass of water at the end of my life, and know that I loved myself to the end. No expectations of anything else.
